Pukatea Pod had a fantastic trip to our beautiful Waikanae Estuary yesterday. We were once again fortunate to be supported by the knowledge and expertise of Matua Mohi from Whakarongotai Marae and Alicia from Mountains to the Sea. We’re so lucky to have such an amazing natural environment right on our doorstep. A big thank you to all the parents who helped with transport—both biking and driving!
Ngā mihi to our awesome whānau helpers-Danielle, Rosemary and Alan, along with our stunning student team and Mr Whiteman who sealed 40 sheets of plywood yesterday to prepare for our outdoor art works-this was a huge help, many thanks!
New Tamariki
A very warm welcome to Arthur who started last week - it is great to have you and your whānau at Kapakapanui!
Staff News
Emily, our awesome Teacher Aide, is finishing with us and her final day will be on Thursday 15th May. We have really enjoyed having Emily on our team and wish her the very best for her new job at Winara House.
New webspace for parents and whānau available
A new webspace is available that provides practical videos, activities, and resources to support learning that is easy to understand – empowering whānau to take a more active role in their child’s education.
The webspace includes ‘parent-friendly’ versions of both The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga of Aotearoa.
As part of their roles, teachers receive five days of Classroom Release Time (CRT) each term. This time is used for essential tasks such as planning, assessment, classroom preparation, and meetings with parents and whānau. In addition to CRT, teachers also receive release time to support the teaching of Structured Literacy (BSLA). While this time is greatly appreciated and supports quality teaching, we do acknowledge the impact it can have on classroom continuity, especially when relief teachers are needed. Provisionally Registered Teachers (PRTs) also receive extra release time, and from time to time, staff may be away due to illness, professional development or attending inter school sports/cultural events. We are fortunate to have regular release teachers—Maria Cassidy, Selena Irving, Rebecca Shelford, and Rose Graham—who provide consistency and know our school well. We do our best to use familiar relievers and manage the schedule carefully, but it is a bit of a juggling act. We appreciate your understanding and support. Ngā mihi.
Teacher Only Day-June 3
Please pop this date into your diary. Our local schools are sharing a Teacher Only Day and we will be having a conference at Paraparaumu College. School will be closed for the day.
Year 5-8 Health and Sexuality Programme
As mentioned in information sent out a few weeks back. Nest Consulting will also be running a parent/whānau information evening for the Years 5-8 programme which is starting in a few weeks time. This information session on Thursday 22 May, from 6.30pm–7.45pm will be via zoom and Nest Consulting has confirmed that parents/whānau can join this from with the link from your own homes, therefore making it more accessible to attend. We will therefore not be hosting this event at school and will send out the zoom link in the week prior to the event for you to join from your own home.
As these sessions are led by an external provider, this is your opportunity to learn more about the programme that your child will take part in for a one day session in the following week.
Winter Sport
It was great to see and hear that so many of our tamariki were 'out there doin' it' on the sports field last weekend-what an awesome day to kick off the winter season! Ngā mihi to our amazing coaches and managers who are overseeing our teams. We held our annual coaches hui last week where we all came together to talk about how to ensure the season will be fun and successfull for all of our players and teams.
We also looked at the Kapakapanui Sports Code of Conduct where there is a section for coaches, players and spectators/parents. Please click here to read this document We also talked about it during hui yesterday. Have a great season everyone!!
Good luck to all of our interschool swimmers today who competed at the Kāpiti Schools event-results will be available next week.
Next Thursday 15th May is Pink shirt day. We are encouraging students to please wear pink to help spread aroha and kindness. Throughout the week we will also be sharing messages around bullying, including what it is and how they can help stop it.
We will have a photo booth at lunchtime so students can come along and get some Pink shirt day photos together with their friends.
Celebrating Diversity at Kapakapanui School
Each week our Cultural Leaders group help someone from our school share their culture with us. This is done at hui or over the P.A. system into the classes. The Cultural Leaders started with their own cultures.
Ms Whitaker is away for a few weeks so we will be putting this on hold until she is back. Stay tuned!

Kapakapanui Sports / Activity Shirts
Now that we are coming into the winter sports season & other events coming up in the next couple of terms - you may like to buy your own shirt to have and look after.
We have a stock of these at the school office (size 6, 8, 10 & 12). They are available to purchase for $35 via myKINDO or at the school office.
Parents have commented that it is great to have their own shirt which they can keep track of, clean and pass onto other family members.
To help ensure our uniforms are well cared for and returned, we have introduced a $15 bond for the loan of a school sports top. This bond will be charged to your school account each time a top is borrowed and refunded when the shirt is returned in good condition.
We appreciate your support in looking after our school uniforms so they can continue to be available for all students.
2025 School Stationery
All stationery packs are still available to purchase via Qizzle online ordering and delivered to your home. If your child needs individual items throughout the year, their teacher will send them to the school office to get and will then be added to your account. This billing/invoice will show as '2025 Stationery', where possible we will itemise what the item/s is.
