This week we celebrate Support Staff Week—a chance to acknowledge and thank the amazing kaiāwhina who help make Kapakapanui School such a special place. Ngā mihi nui to our incredible teacher aides, office staff, librarian and caretaker. Your hard work, dedication, and care for our tamariki and kura do not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate everything you do—thank you for your valuable contribution to our entire school community - #legends!
Toi Mahara Gallery
This week Ngā Kaitoro and Ngā Kākano have walked up to Toi Mahara Gallery, this is part of our art focus for the term. The classes learnt about local and international artists and also did some drawing. Thank you to Kirsten and Janet from Toi Mahara!
Waikanae Estuary & Beach Trip
Mānuka and Tōtara Pods (Rangatahi Syndicate) both have had more fantastic trips to our beautiful Waikanae Estuary. We were once again fortunate to be supported by the knowledge and expertise of Matua Mohi from Whakarongotai Marae, Whaea Amanda from enviro Schools and Alice from Mountains to the Sea. We’re so lucky to have such an amazing natural environment right on our doorstep. A big thank you to all the parents who helped with transport—both biking and driving!
A very warm welcome to Eyma who started last week - it is great to have you and your whānau at Kapakapanui!
Whakapau Kaha (Cross country)-To Give One's All
Our annual Whakapau Kaha event is coming up next Thursday 22 May. Classes have been training hard and getting ready!
The name Whakapau Kaha literally means “to give it your best shot” – and that’s exactly what we encourage. Whether it’s winning the race, finishing near the top, or simply not giving up, every effort counts. We want our tamariki to develop a love for movement and physical challenge, which helps build healthy lifelong habits.
Mr Wynne is once again running the event and has prepared a cool video of the course for Years 3–8. Our younger children will complete a fun commando course here at school.

Year 5-8 Health and Sexuality Programme
As mentioned in information sent out a few weeks back. Nest Consulting will also be running a parent/whānau information evening for the Years 5-8 programme which is starting in a few weeks time. This information session on next Thursday 22 May, from 6.30pm–7.45pm will be via zoom and Nest Consulting has confirmed that parents/whānau can join this from with the link from your own homes, therefore making it more accessible to attend. We will therefore not be hosting this event at school.
Please note they do not permit recording of this session for privacy and copyright reasons.
As these sessions are led by an external provider, this is your opportunity to learn more about the programme that your child will take part in for a one day session in the following week.
This Thursday 15th May is Pink shirt day. We are encouraging students to please wear pink to help spread aroha and kindness. Throughout the week we will also be sharing messages around bullying, including what it is and how they can help stop it. Check out our 2024 pic
We will have a photo booth at lunchtime so students can come along and get some Pink shirt day photos together with their friends.
Celebrating Diversity at Kapakapanui School
Each week our Cultural Leaders group help someone from our school share their culture with us. This is done at hui or over the P.A. system into the classes. The Cultural Leaders started with their own cultures.
Xin chào my name is Joni, I am going to tell you a bit about my Vietnamese culture.
Did you know Vietnam has 63 provinces and cities, including 6 centrally-governed cities. These centrally-governed cities are: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue. Also did you know Ho Chi Minh City is home to 24 districts with over 9 million Vietnamese residents. My Family is from Ho Chi Minh City District 4. In Vietnamese culture when you go to a formal event in Vietnam you would wear a áo dài. These are both worn by men or women.
Some fun facts about Vietnamese culture.
Vietnam has the world's largest cave! Vietnam is also a spiritual country it’s full of amazing temples. Vietnam is the world's 14th largest country and in Vietnam the roads are ruled by motorbikes. A lot of Vietnamese people ride motorbikes everywhere. Also did you know Vietnam’s full name is The Socialist Republic of VietNam. Goodbye and have a great day.

Yummy Stickers
Begin or keep collecting those yummy stickers - we will be doing the collecting next term but the more the merrier for us as a school.
Kapakapanui Sports / Activity Shirts
Now that we are coming into the winter sports season & other events coming up in the next couple of terms - you may like to buy your own shirt to have and look after.
We have a stock of these at the school office (size 6, 8, 10 & 12). They are available to purchase for $35 via myKINDO or at the school office.
Parents have commented that it is great to have their own shirt which they can keep track of, clean and pass onto other family members.
To help ensure our uniforms are well cared for and returned, we have introduced a $15 bond for the loan of a school sports top. This bond will be charged to your school account each time a top is borrowed and refunded when the shirt is returned in good condition.
We appreciate your support in looking after our school uniforms so they can continue to be available for all students.
2025 School Stationery
All stationery packs are still available to purchase via Qizzle online ordering and delivered to your home. If your child needs individual items throughout the year, their teacher will send them to the school office to get and will then be added to your account. This billing/invoice will show as '2025 Stationery', where possible we will itemise what the item/s is.
School Library
Librarian: Natasha Milmine
Your childs class will visit the library every week and get to explore all the awesome books our librarian has provided.
THE HELL PIZZA READING CHALLENGE The HELL Pizza Reading Challenge is being run this year for Year 3-8 students. This is a fun programme where kids read seven books at their level and then collect a free pizza from HELL Pizza. This will run from now until the last day of school in Term 4. There are no limits on the amount of pizza wheels students can complete, so it would be great if you could ask your kids how they're going with the challenge and encourage your kids to complete at least one wheel this year. Many thanks, Natasha Milmine
